SLDC Lion's Roar - April 21, 2020

Dear SLDC Families,

We hope this finds you well and safe.  As we begin our third week of Distance Learning and Related Services, we want to remind our SLDC families that we are here for you!  All of the changes and adjustments to distance learning and related services can become overwhelming and frustrating.  We are here to help and support you through every step of the way.  If you or your child are struggling with anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to your son or daughter’s teacher, related service providers, or myself at jogrady@sldc.net or call the school at (714) 821-3620.

Below you will find important Distance Learning information:

Campus Hours/Picking Up items - SLDC’s campus is currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 health crisis.  If you need to pick up an instructional packet or collect any items from the school please call the school to arrange for pickup Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8:30am-4:00pm.  Once you arrive in the parking lot please park in one of the marked curbside pick-up parking spots and call (714) 821-3620.  We are requesting that protective equipment, such as a mask or bandanna, covering your nose and mouth, be worn when picking up packets, devices or other items.

Instructional Packets - Instructional packets are being sent by U.S. Mail or delivered by one of our SLDC bus drivers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Distance Learning Devices - Students will be able to access all distance learning activities from any device you have at home (tablet, laptop, desktop, cell phone, etc.).  If you do not have a device at home, please reach out to me directly at jogrady@sldc.net

Internet Access Resources - Spectrum/Charter Communications announced they will make their services available for free for 60 days to households with K–12 and/or college students who do not already have internet through the company. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.   To enroll, please contact Charter directly at 1-844-488-8395. Make sure you cancel after 60 days unless they extend the free offer. LAUSD is partnering with Verizon to provide free internet access for their students. If you are experiencing difficulty gaining internet access, please reach out to me directly at jogrady@sldc.net

Food Services - Parents, please contact your local school district for information regarding free or reduced-price meal availability in your area.

Distance Learning Pictures - If you’ve taken any pictures of your student accessing distance learning (family can be in the picture as well) or pictures of some of the other activities your child has been doing during this time, please share them with us!  With your permission, we’d like to share them on our social media pages.  You can email your pictures to ABarnes@sldc.net.  We can't wait to see all of your pictures!
